St. Louis may be boring, but that's not a bad thing
Abstract:
Our nightlife may be next to nonexistent, our entertainment venues are one ticket-stub short of a yawn and our public transportation is lacking. There is no doubt that St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, is boring. The city has been fighting its dull reputation for as long as I can remember-but why? Is boring necessarily bad?
For years, St....

Snow in April??? When does it snow in april? That is totally an exception to the rule. Winter ends at the beginning march!
Memphis and NO a big brother??? What st. louisans do you know or talk to???
Are you even from st. louis or spent any time there?
The outages were covered on national news! I heard about it in Chicago on cnn!!
What are you trying to accomplish with this article? Seriously...
Seriously... it was an opinion piece I was required to write for a grade to get through school to get my degree to get hired at a newspaper. Which I did. Everyone is entitled to their own free opinions, so I accept yours. You don't think St. Louis is boring, OK, so what? I think it is. You can write an opinion article about how exciting it is - and even though I might disagree with you, I won't criticize you. However, once again, you're free to criticize anyone you wish. So that's what I accomplished with this piece.
As far as snow in April, that's nothing new in St. Louis. How long have you been in St. Louis? Because I've lived here for 24 years and have seen an awful lot of strange weather... so that's nothing new - and most of the time it's more annoying than exciting. Also, I'm not sure what "the rule" about snow is you're talking about, because as far as I know there's no official "Weather Rule Book". I could be wrong though. It snows in June in the Northern states... is that an exception to the rule? And just so you have your facts straight - the Spring equinox was on March 20th this year - which is a little closer to the end of March - not the begining. That is a fact. However, again, my article was just my opinion and you're more than free to have your own.
Also - have you ever been to New Orleans or Memphis? Memphis by far rivals us as far as barbeque and music goes. I won't even go into New Orleans - but if you think St. Louis is more exciting - try Bourbon Street on Mardis Gras. Again, simply my own little opinion.
And yes, I talk to an awful lot of St. Louisans every single day, since I live and work in St. Louis; I also know an awful lot of those people. Do you really want me to list off the people from St. Louis I know? I could, but that would be very time consuming. I mean, I'm sure I don't know everyone in St. Louis or their private thoughts and publicly announced or published opinions. Do you?
Also, I'm happy to hear that the power outage was covered on CNN, thank you for that information. I didn't realize that because my television wasn't working at the time due to a power outage. I only had my radio and NPR was in fact making a longer news piece out of the outage in Queens, New York than the bigger outage in St. Louis. That is a fact as well. I read that you were in Chicago at the time of the outage - does it ever snow there past the begining of March?
One last thing - you asked how it could be possible for St. Louis to be the most boring city in the U.S. The answer to that question is: I don't know. In fact, I really don't know that it actually is the most boring city, and I never once wrote that it is "the most" boring city in the U.S. I said : "the city has been fighting its dull reputation for as long as I can remember," which is true because it's my own personal memory. I also wrote, "one of the most boring cities in the U.S.," which is certainly not calling it "THE most". And again, if you would have checked the section of the paper you were reading there might have been the word "Opinion" published as well.
Also, as far as worthless or uninformed... techinically it wasn't worthless because there was a lot of money fronted for that degree I earned. If you have read the opinion piece, then you would have read the definite factual information on that crazy St. Louis weather you were writing about as well as power outages in other cities, baseball World Championships and statistics on the rankings of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. according to the Morgan Quitno Press in October 2006.
You're criticizing the opinions of a chick who gets excited about multi-colored yarn, different kinds of tea, silent documentaries and collects sand from around the world. I honestly don't know a more boring person than myself, but is boring necessarily a bad thing? My opinion, as I unfolded in my piece, was no. I gave plenty of reasons why I thought that living in St. Louis wasn't a bad thing at all - whether you percieve the city as being boring or not.
You "seriously..." just must have a more exciting life than I do. That's your opinion, and I'm OK with that.

As a native I can assure you, we do get freak weather in April. I have personally seen the snow and hail that occurs occassionally.

Naw, St. Louis is one of the most boring cities in the country.
We're a strange combination of rural and urban. We have a lot of commuters from across the rivers. We're a strange small big city. It's a very unique environment as a result.

Agree w/ Ming 100%...if St. Louis is boring, you really need to stop watching the weather channel, cut down on the NRP, spend a little less time talking to your mother, and get out more. I've had enough fun in this town to the limits of both my wallet and my sanity!!

You are completely right! You must have reached your limit of sanity and fell right off that edge! I'm awful sorry that you have that little money as well - especially with all the free attractions St. Louis has to offer. Maybe if you spent more time listening to your mother instead of dishing out dough on your future beer belly not only would you be that much richer - but that much smarter as well. Smart enough to correctly spell "NPR" least... Wow.
