MetroLink cuts could halt growth at commuter school

Although Webster University saw an increase of graduate students and had hopes to raise its low undergraduate enrollment, the elimination of two dozen bus routes on March 30 in the St. Louis area and surrounding cities, may put a damper on future university plans.

It's no secret Webster University leans to the left side of the political aisle. Boisterous opponents and critics of the Bush administration among the student body have raised their voices loud and clear in years past. A veritable cornucopia of student groups exist championing various socially liberal causes and protesting many of the moves made by the previously Republican-controlled government.

By all accounts, it's a beautiful day. The magnolias and dogwoods are in full bloom, birds sing carelessly in the budding canopy, and the sun is shining, warming the air. Spring is here, the world is reborn, but I can't shake the creeping doom lingering on the periphery.
