The highest number of students voted in the Student Government Association elections last week than in any other election, according to SGA Adviser John Ginsburg. According to Ginsburg, the contested positions led to the higher voter turn out. But students would be remiss if they only voted for SGA because they only wanted their friends to land a seat.

SGA actually has completed a number of projects this year, and if by luck - the dorms being approved - or by sheer democratic will, our student representatives have been a part of many aesthetic projects around campus as well as practical street-level projects.

While the number of students who use the newly installed bike racks is still unclear, they are there nonetheless. While there is still no stop light at the intersection of Edgar Road and Garden Avenue, there will be one soon if all goes to plan. And who can forget the dorm proposal? After the last proposal was shot down in early 2004, SGA took steps to go to Webster Groves City Council meetings to show that students supported the university and wanted more students on campus.

The real challenge is for SGA to keep up the prolific activity and activism. Proving that this year was not a fluke - and not just the result of being on the board during a busy year at Webster - by staying active next school year is SGA's chance to fully solidify itself on campus.

The fact that there was competition for positions suggests more students are wanting to get involved in SGA. The organization has gained some credibility on campus, but there is always room for improvement.

We look forward to hearing the ideas of new SGA members, and seeing those ideas implemented in the next academic year. If SGA stays active, students will continue to vote and care.
