A Journal reporter was forced to leave while covering a portion of Take Back the Night that was advertised as open to the female public. Considering the sensitivity of the issue, the reporter and her editors left without protesting the denial of access. Events open to the public are open to journalists.
The Journal supports the purpose and spirit involved with this event and applauds Students For Gender Equality for their efforts, but the newspaper stands by the decision not to publish an incomplete story because of the limited access to the entire event. The reporter had every intention to report on the event sensitively, respecting the privacy of those involved.
