Halloween was celebrated Webster-style this year, and all it took was some pumpkins, a haunted house and a little drag.

A host of student organizations sponsored Shocktoberfest from Oct. 25 to Oct. 31. Events included pumpkin carving and painting Oct. 25 in the University Center Sunnen Lounge and a screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" Oct. 26 in Grant Gymnasium. During the movie, members of the audience who dressed up as their favorite characters sang, danced and acted out the film.

Freshman Lauren Toivonea, a biology major, said she attended the screening because she said she saw the fliers around campus and heard her friends talking about it. Toivonea didn't dress up for Webster's screening, but said she is thinking about wearing her prom dress when the movie is screened Nov. 3 and 4 at the Tivoli Theatre in University City.

Students had the chance to attend a murder mystery dinner Oct. 27 in the Sunnen Lounge. After the dinner, a busload of students left the UC parking and headed to "The Darkness," a two-story haunted house in Soulard.

Campus Activities Graduate Assistant Katie McComb said a trip to the haunted house usually costs $15, but students only paid $5. The monetary difference was covered by funds contributed by all sponsoring groups.

"I'm so excited that we pulled together such a large committee of program planners for the events," McComb said.

As of now, Shocktoberfest is not an annual event, but McComb said if this year goes well that could change.
