Administration finally got it right with Pelosi
Issue date: 3/8/07 Section: Opinion/Editorial
The administration of Webster should be commended for finding a graduation speaker of Nancy Pelosi’s caliber. Pelosi was appointed in as January the first woman speaker of the house in U.S. history.
Pelosi, one of the most powerful women in the country and second in line for the presidency will surely have something to say about perseverance and success that will appeal to the entire Webster community, regardless of political viewpoint or interest in politics.
With her finger on the pulse of the nation, Pelosi has a lot to say to students who are just starting their careers.
Last year, former St. Louis mayor Francis Slay gave the commencement address. According to people who attended the event, Slay actually put some people to sleep.
While some of the other candidates considered this year prior to naming Pelosi were interesting, such as presidential hopeful Barak Obama, other candidates would have certainly proved to be sleep-inducers as well.
Pelosi is certainly an upgrade from previous years and candidates.
Hopefully, a national emergency will not arise that robs us of our amazing opportunity to listen to the words of someone who influences national policy daily.
