Illegal immigrants put strain on country

As one of the few conservative Webster students, I feel inclined to respond to the arguments put forward by Breanna Herschelman in her commentary on illegal immigration. I must applaud her on her ludicrous link between illegal immigration and the "quest" for oil.
While she managed to label a large majority of the students at NYU "future fascists," I was surprised that she didn't jump to the old "Bush is Hitler!" rhetoric.
I fail to see what about NYU's stunt is such a travesty. It aimed to bring attention onto the issue, and it did. It certainly riled up a lot of liberals, at least.
Still, go ahead with your idea for a counter-protest, let the world know naive Webster students are about the effects of illegal immigration on the economy. After all, land is the "only" thing they need, "right?" It's not like they use "any" tax-funded infrastructure without paying their share of taxes, "right?" They "certainly" don't use our schools, hospitals, roads or welfare system!
Illegal immigration is a major issue that faces working America. The main issue to which you seem so oblivious is how illegal immigrants are willing to work for far less than minimum wage and without benefits such as health care.
This creates an uneven playing field in the job market. As someone whose father lost his job to illegal immigrants I can say that it's a myth that immigrants only do jobs that Americans don't want.
The real solution lies in taking away the advantage for corporations to hire illegal immigrants and they will stop hiring them in place of legalized citizens. This would do far more good in solving our immigration issue than just throwing money at Mexico's corrupt government.

You are certainly correct that the main issue is the pay illegal immigrants receive, or rather don't receive. You are also correct that it is a myth that they only do work that US-Americans don't want. (Continued…)
