This week, it's Greek - or so goes the tagline for this year's Springfest, Webster's annual week of springtime events for students.

Staying true to the theme, Springfest began April 13 with a toga party in H. Sam Priest House's Pink Room, adorned with faux grapes atop white pillars.

Senior Matt Majikas, a broadcast journalism major, served as deejay for the evening, spinning tunes from Kelly Clarkson to the Temptations, as well as party favorites like the "Cha-Cha Slide" and the "Tootsie Roll."

"With a college show, it's a lot easier to pick songs because people at this stage of their life appreciate all genres of music," Majikas said.

Campus Activities booked Majikas through TKO DJs, a St. Louis-based company that rents out professional deejays for events such as weddings, parties and dances.

"For me as a deejay, it's nice to be in an environment where you're comfortable because you know the people you're deejaying for," he said.

However, Majikas only deejayed for about seven people, despite Campus Activities' advertising the toga party via flyers and signs around campus, on Facebook and by Campus Activities members who ran through the residence halls on the night of the event chanting "toga, toga, toga."

"I expected more people to come, considering people asked for weekend programming, parties and dances," said sophomore Zhanna Meeks, a psychology major and Campus Activities program manager.

Katie McComb, graduate assistant for the University Center and Campus Activities, also expected a bigger crowd.

"I was disappointed with the turnout," McComb said. "I don't think we'll plan something of that nature for a Friday night again. We'll probably keep it to a weeknight when more people are on campus."

Freshman Jackie Schall, a media communications major, felt the toga party was not well publicized.

"I didn't go to the toga party, but if it would have been advertised more, then maybe," she said. "There are a lot of off-campus people who don't know what's going on."
