Ben Curtis, a junior advertising and marketing major, said he appreciated the opportunity to view an unfamiliar side of life.
"I think it's important for people to see how other people live across the world so we can have a more complete view of humanity," Curtis said. "This is stuff you don't see every day. and I may not have ever had the chance to see it, other than through somebody else's photographs."
Putnam said Bill Barrett, the director of the May Gallery, first approached him almost three years ago regarding a future exhibit. Barrett was familiar with Putnam's books and had been interested in some of his collections, including one called "Silent Screens: The Decline and Transformation of the American Movie Theater, Johns Hopkins Press, 2000."
Putnam agreed to do the show but offered to do a different exhibit: "Pilgrim India."
"It is the first time it has ever been seen," Barrett said.
Webster's May Gallery has the privilege of premiering this exhibit.
The May Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
The next exhibit at the May Gallery will be "Theresa Marshall, Get Out and Live: A Journey to Awareness." The opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
